Situation

The village of Bassecourt, located just 9 km from Delémont, has around 4,000 inhabitants. This village offers all the infrastructure of a city without its drawbacks. Located just 45 minutes from Basel, Bassecourt is ideally located. Thanks to the proximity of the town to that of Delémont, Bassecourt is served by the A16 motorway which links neighboring France to Bienne.

Municipality

Coming from the former municipalities of Bassecourt, Courfaivre, Glovelier, Soulce and Undervelier, Haute-Sorne was created on January 1, 2013 following popular vote on the merger accepted on February 5, 2012. The Municipality of Haute-Sorne is mainly distinguished by its territory extended over more than 8,000 hectares where five villages with well-typed characteristics have chosen to join forces in a single entity. The common goal is the creation of an economic instrument of primary importance and the reunification of the municipal administrations. Bassecourt has several buildings registered in the directory of cultural goods of national and regional importance: The old cure which is the oldest dwelling of the villages of the valley of Delémont. It is a typical rural dwelling in the Jura valleys, the construction of which probably dates back to 1594 or 1635. During its renovation in 1980, the arched door was restored and the mullioned window of the main bedroom rebuilt. St-Hubert chapel, patron saint of hunters. It was erected on a Burgundian cemetery and was mentioned for the first time in the 15th century. It was rebuilt in 1696/1697 and renovated in 1954 (exterior) and 1978 (interior). It has three magnificent baroque-style altars decorated with sculptures: the high altar dates from 1713, the side altars from 1697. The chapel of the Immaculate Conception by Berlincourt. It dates from 1957. It is the work of the architect Jeanne Bueche; the stained glass windows are by Maurice Estève. Bassecourt has other buildings worthy of mention, such as the parish church of St-Pierre dating from 1587 and rebuilt in 1828, the mill built in 1769 as well as the building belonging to the primary school which is characterized by its pinnacle and its hipped roof. The Crown restaurant dates from the 19th century. At the central crossroads, there is a magnificent octagonal neo-Gothic fountain built in 1885. Berlincourt is mainly made up of buildings dating from the 19th century. Only one building probably dates from the 18th century. The bridge, to the south of the hamlet, was built in 1865. In 1893, it was embellished with a cast iron crucifix which can still be admired. The building of the old school dating from the end of the 19th century is modest but typical with its pinnacle.
